ABSTRACT

This chapter helps the reader understand how those who are traumatised and in distress after the loss of their loved ones can react to being at the Humanitarian Assistance Centre (HAC). It explains the impact of grief on families at the HAC and the journey they go through that might be experienced by the Special Assistance Teams (SATs) at the centre. This chapter will be of help to an airline to train their staff to be ready to experience this and also be mindful of the kinds of behaviours that might be witnessed. Finally, the chapter offers some insight into how the SATs can be impacted on their return home.
