ABSTRACT
A HARDER task lies ahead: that of giving an account of what we have called the intransitive bodily sensations; things such as aches, pains and tickles. Since these are the subject of the rest of this book I shall often refer to them simply as ‘bodily sensations’ or ‘sensations’. Where I refer to the transitive sensations I shall say so explicitly.
