ABSTRACT

Parenting advice is a regular topic on the morning television shows, in magazines, and on social media. The myriad of “dos and don’ts” is easily overwhelming and many times one piece of advice contradicts another. It is likely that the readers have also heard advice from their relatives and other friends who are parents. Educators recognize that parents bring unique perspectives to the important work of raising children and know that each of them needs to filter all the messages and advice and determine what is best for their family. The concept of mindsets, and the power of instilling growth mindset thinking in children, has proven to be a very powerful influence on both of them and the children that they interact with on a regular basis. It has changed the way they approach new learning, the way they praise the children they love, and the way they respond to their own challenges, struggles, and frustrations.
