ABSTRACT

The focus of chapter 3 is how adults respond to the children in their lives. What does the child hear? How might a child react after feedback or praise? Discussion of several types of praise is presented: effort praise, strategy praise and persistence praise. Readers are also provided with an opportunity to practice growth-mindset oriented praise and feedback through interactive tasks that allow them to improve upon their own self-talk as well as think about replacement statements for commonly used phrases.
