ABSTRACT

Immediately after World War II, there was a substantial growth in crime along with an increased need for tighter security at government and private facilities. This led to the widespread use of laminated photo identification badges and in particularly, photo drivers’ licenses. Many companies entered this business, but it was primarily Polaroid with their instant photo systems that made mass use of photo IDs practical. By the middle of the 1960, half of all State Driver Motor Vehicle Departments were using the Polaroid System and Polaroid was the dominate supplier of equipment for all government and private security.
