ABSTRACT

Digital technology has provided an enormous boost to security and personal identification documents. It all began around 1900 with Hollerith card, the embossed printing tags for mass mailings and retail like newspapers and magazines, then embossed plastic cards for credit cards and IDs, and continuing to digitize photo IDs printed within laminated cards for tamper resistance. Today, video face recognition along with a host of other digital technologies provide superior ID security and make facilities and nations more secure.
