ABSTRACT

Part II presents the active ingredients, agents, and methods for pest control from the Middle Ages to the age of industrialization. Active ingredients are substances that have a specific effect or cause a specific reaction in an organism. In biology, they are effective components of plant protection products, herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides. A particular challenge arises due to the fact that the German national chemical nomenclature underwent changes at the end of the 19th century in line with the advancements in chemistry. Until the mid-20th century, the international chemical nomenclature was adopted. To mitigate reader confusion caused by different names for the same substance, an extensive glossary is provided. However, priority is given to active substances and methods used in museum collections.
