ABSTRACT

The value of a measure of central tendency is of immense importance to the researchers in two ways. First, it is representative of all the scores in a group of scores, thus, helping the researchers to arrive at a summary description of various features or parameters of the group. Second, the value of the measure of central tendency allows the researchers to have intergroup comparison on various desired and pertinent parameters of the groups concerned. Shape or form of the distribution representing the data is another important consideration to the researchers in selecting an appropriate measure of central tendency to analyse data. The use of Mean is exclusively restricted to interval/ratio level data because as a measure of central tendency, it assumes equal intervals of the data, which the data at either nominal or ordinal level cannot guarantee.
