ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the roles individuals play in society and how these roles can influence decisions related to sustainability. It emphasizes the significance of informed citizenship in addressing environmental challenges and suggests proactive approaches to legislation, politics, and volunteering to make a positive impact. It explores the role of consumers in shaping corporate behavior, highlighting the power of informed choices and the impact of location in implementing sustainable practices. It highlights the importance of corporate culture in promoting sustainability and the role of employees in influencing company policies. The chapter underscores the importance of informed decision-making and proactive engagement at various organizational levels to drive positive environmental change. The chapter also addresses the role of corporations, discussing how small businesses, public companies, and their executives can prioritize sustainability and explores the ongoing sustainability transformation across various industries. Two interviewees offer insights into driving tangible changes to tackle plastic pollution and discuss the evolving role of individuals and corporations in addressing environmental challenges and the need for systemic changes.
