Introduction

This chapter will introduce the background, research issues, and theoretical framework of this book. The first part highlights the scope and purpose of this book by explaining and introducing the meaning of the word “Pernicious-Vestiges” (YíDú遗毒) in a Chinese context and its social background, which leads to the general questions raised in this book. Then, the existing research on this issue is summarized, and this book is positioned in this research field. It mainly describes the main contributions of related research and evaluates where there are significant research gaps. It also provides a brief introduction to the following chapters and the theories used in this book.
