ABSTRACT

In the “Pernicious-Vestiges” narrative of the People’s Daily, some historical events or ideologies are constructed as the decline or disappearance of “Pernicious-Vestiges” discourse, which is actually similar to mnemonic silence. Through the suppression of “Pernicious-Vestiges” discourse of specific historical events, its association with “Pernicious-Vestiges” is gradually lifted by reconstructing people’s collective memory through the induction of forgetting. Chapter 5 will focus on this discourse type, combining text and historical events to elaborate, including the obscure of “old society”, the narration of Kuomintang reactionaries, imperialism and capitalism, and the short silence of “Pernicious-Vestiges” words.
