ABSTRACT

In this interview, Stijn Vanheule talks about his encounter with Mario, who he considers to be his Zen-Buddist Master. Throughout this talk, Vanheule makes clear how to work with psychosis, mental disability and the importance of working with parents. A crucial anecdote shows how contingency plays a part in clinical work. After using this anecdote to reflect on the master’s and analytic discourse, Vanheule elaborates on items from his personal history and how this has shaped his position vis-à-vis psychosis and the importance of talking about psychosis. In a final part, the interview discusses the matter of Lacanian structural diagnostics.
