ABSTRACT

In this interview, Amar El-Omari discusses a case which had the effect of awakening him as a clinician. Working in centre for mental health care with a focus on multicultural counselling, he illustrates how one’s (cultural) background can influence the clinical process and blurs the ideas one has concerning clinical diagnostics and therapy. El-Omari testifies on how the neurotic always finds the neurotic. This interview beautifully illustrates how, if one takes clinical encounters seriously and discusses this in supervision and analysis, this can change one’s clinical practice.
