ABSTRACT

The diagnostic criterion A (the event criteria) describes events that are severe enough to cause trauma as death or threatened death, actual or threatened serious injury, and actual or threatened sexual violation. These events can be experienced or witnessed. To meet full criteria, a person must also have symptoms in four clusters, with symptoms that last for at least one month. Someone can also have PTSD symptoms even if they do not meet full criteria. Women can meet full criteria for PTSD after a traumatic birth.
