ABSTRACT

Infant’s crying can make mothers depressed, especially if they are also not sleeping well. However, if mothers were depressed during pregnancy, their infants are poorer sleepers and cry more. So mothers’ depression can cause the very changes that then make her more susceptible to depression. Male infants are more susceptible to these effects. This research does not consider breastfeeding, which can help with infant sleep, mothers’ depression, and a sensitive temperament.
