ABSTRACT

Preterm birth is a risk factor for depression, anxiety, and depression. A high percentage of mothers with babies in the NICU develop acute stress disorder, the precursor syndrome to depression. Kangaroo mother care helps mothers and babies adjust postpartum and lowers the risk for depression and anxiety. Babies grow well, and mothers feel more confident. Mothers who use assisted reproductive technology to get pregnant are also at higher risk for depression, particularly if it was preceded by a history of pregnancy loss and/or infertility.
