ABSTRACT

The introduction gives a brief outline of the purpose of this book and how it is developed through the content of each chapter. The introduction begins with a brief overview of the development and use of the concept of sharp power in academic research with relevant publications to date. The concept of sharp power was created, because there was a need in the research environment for a precise theoretical approach that would allow adequate study of the non-military influence of authoritarian and totalitarian states. The soft power approach used so far is better suited to the study of democratic countries, while the concept of sharp power provides for better analysis of the goals, implementation, and impact of propaganda and disinformation campaigns by authoritarian countries.
