ABSTRACT

In an era when the identity of the modern therapist is shifting, this book seeks to get a clearer sense of how therapeutic authenticity can be achieved through examining the tenants of performance art. The resulting phenomenon in the mixing of these two disciplines is the performance therapist, an amalgamation of different characteristics from the performance artist and the therapist. We will explore why performance art and psychoanalysis relate, why exploring this concept is important, what we may learn here, and who might benefit the most from a work like this.
