ABSTRACT

To wrap up this section, we learn that authenticity isn’t just measured and co-constructed by the patient and the therapist in the dyad – it's also influenced by the external environment and who the therapist sees themselves as in their behavior outside the session (in supervisions, didactics, groups, and the like). Experiencing discomfort with one's professional persona is contextualized culturally and compared to an identity crisis using the theories of Erik Erikson.
