ABSTRACT

This chapter brings together the distinct perspectives of the preceding chapters to address the central research questions of this book: how are Australian far-right parties organised, and why have they failed to make significant electoral inroads in Australia? This chapter expands on the theorisation of disorganised parties, by analysing how Australian far-right parties have failed to build their organisations across four interconnected themes: party structure and territorial distribution; leadership, decision-making, and intraparty democracy; candidate selection and endorsement; and members and mobilisations. This chapter concludes by teasing out the distinctions between Australian far-right parties as disorganised parties, and other party types, highlighting how the failure to invest in party building constitutes a novel party type.
