ABSTRACT

Establishing a strong academic voice and taking the mystery out of the writing process is the aim of this chapter. It aims to build confidence so that candidates play with the process of writing, create original text, and constructively critique their work.

The chapter closes with a summary of key concepts and recommended exercises. The discussion then dovetails into Chapter 9: Staying on Track and Deadlines, which examines the demands of a doctorate combined with day-to-day responsibilities and offers guidance on the journey towards completion when life gets in the way or when imposter syndrome sets in.
