ABSTRACT

Preparing for a Viva voce (the final oral exam of a doctoral programme) requires clarity of thought and the ability to identify and decide the best way to showcase four to seven years of work in a presentation of about 20–40 minutes, defend the work, anticipate likely questions, and prepare responses. This chapter is practical and pragmatic and links to the doctoral learning outcomes. It helps candidates drill down to the essence of the work to demonstrate knowledge and understanding, proficiency and ability, judgement and approach, and fulfil the requirements to be granted a doctoral degree.

The chapter closes with a summary of key concepts and recommended exercises before moving on to Part IV: Well-being, the final doctoral completion trigger.
