ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to introduce the topics covered in the book, present the research hypothesis, research questions, and provide a brief description of each chapter.

The global economy and society have undergone profound changes in recent decades, giving rise to the information economy, digital economy, and creative economy. Creative industries, including the recording industry, have experienced significant effects from these changes driven by information and communication technologies. The recording industry has witnessed transformations in reproduction and distribution due to digitisation and dematerialisation, resulting in marginal reproduction costs approaching zero. The emergence of peer-to-peer networks and internet piracy led to a decline in compact disc sales and a restructuring of the industry. New business models and the entry of IT industry entities have further shaped the industry. The impact of these changes and innovations like blockchain and artificial intelligence on the recording industry has been extensively discussed.
