ABSTRACT

This chapter underscores the close-knit relationship that exists between the zombie and the virus. It offers a detailed literature review on the zombie genre, calling attention to the relatively few studies centred on the fundamental trait of the postmillennial zombie - its viral nature. The chapter sets Warm Bodies as an instance of a teenage zombie rom-com where love is narratively used as a revolutionary tool that emerges out of the viral microrelations taking place at a horizontal level. The film resonates with the teen pic genre and with the organisational power ascribed to digital social networks in the quick and easy spread of positive ideas to mobilise the population.
