Three weeks later, on 20 October, Bronio left again for Sydney and thence for New Guinea on the ‘Makambo’. On the morning of his departure Elsie, who was on night duty, had left the Hospital and instead of going home to Chanonry as was expected had gone to Bronio’s rooms. This was discovered by the Hospital Matron and by Elsie’s mother and a row ensued. This was to have serious consequences for it confirmed the Massons’s distrust and dislike of Bronio.
