ABSTRACT

In this session, participants are asked to consider the knowledge and skills necessary to enable individuals to make good decisions and to have an opportunity to practice these skills. Making decisions is a part of every day life and many decisions are made automatically, such as deciding which way to walk to school or what to have for breakfast. However, there are also some major life decisions that can have a long-term impact, such as deciding which subjects to study for GCSE and, as we become older, decisions about jobs, partners etc. Other decisions may not be life altering but can present us with practical or ethical dilemmas. Part of growing up and becoming a responsible, well-rounded individual includes developing the ability to make ‘good’ decisions. This is a clarifying process that requires individuals to use their thoughts, beliefs, values and available information.
