ABSTRACT

People change individually and collectively, changing structures along the way. It does not even require a new generation, raised differently, to see change in a society. Static hope reinforces consumerism and the “win/lose” assumption of financial investing. It leads people to conclude that if they have no proof that the world will change, they might as well spend their time being as happy and comfortable as possible, that is, accumulating as many material things as possible. These concepts of “happy” and “comfortable” are also static, as is this understanding of the purpose of material things. In fact, for people who are connected to their own emotions and dreams, to all other life, and the earth, there is no choice. Rejection, ostracism, loss of love and name calling will not fail to affect them; they will suffer as a result and will dread them, but once they have found their authentic self they will not want to lose it.
