ABSTRACT

The security industry has capitalized on the school market, and businesses have flourished since the 1990s. The security industry, once dominated by military and government agencies and a few select businesses that received the bulk of government contracts, is now composed of these same groups, but also many thousands of businesses in various fields, including security design, research, training and education, distribution, manufacturing, and installation. This has occurred partly because security has become increasingly profitable with the opening up of the market beyond war and national security and into housing, community design, public transportation, and of course schools. Like other professional organizations, the security industry conferences also promote the industry itself by enabling meetings, discussions, contact making, and information exchanges about job opportunities, mergers between companies, and other kinds of the news that are usually exchanged through the person-to-person conversations.
