ABSTRACT
Before discussing naproxen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids) in the following four chapters, some appreciation of the state of scientific knowledge regarding that class of medicines and the arthritic diseases, which they are intended to treat, is required. The purpose of the first two sections of this chapter is to outline briefly the inter-related scientific, technological and commercial dimensions of nsaid therapy.
