ABSTRACT

Analgesics play the important role in medicine of relieving and/or treating pain. For many years one goal of analgesic drug research has been to find an analgesic more effective than aspirin, but without the adverse effects of narcotics. Such adverse effects include the development of tolerance (which induces patients to increase continually their medication to obtain its positive effects), a feeling of cloudiness and the inability to perform/work satisfactorily. The pharmaceutical company called McNeil Laboratories claimed that they had developed such a non-narcotic analgesic nsaid during the 1970s. It was known generically as zomepirac with the tradename Zomax.
