ABSTRACT

In many instances of relating, it is quite clear from the context as to which part is active and which part is passive. When a clear statement needs to be made, the active part is indicated by: thickening the end of the bow for the active part; placement of the accent sign when a clap occurs; or placement of the “X” within the bow when grasping occurs. A very small unit of time is understood to exist at the active end of the bow to indicate the moment at which the relationship takes place. The length of the action stroke or of a specific movement symbol indicates the time taken to achieve the relationship. Movement of a limb that is involved in a relating state may result in a moving, that is, a “passing” or “sliding” relationship. Such continuation is possible for all relationships expressed through horizontal bows.
