ABSTRACT

From the specific movement investigation of space in relation to the 27 main directions, this chapter now opens up to investigate broader aspects of direction. The possibilities include being very general, such as allowing freedom in exploring spatial areas and how directions and levels can be given open interpretations. When no traveling occurs, movement that takes place on the spot is called axial movement because it is around the center, the axis. The space available for such movement is one’s own personal space. It is the space which our limbs can reach while people remain in one place, a bubble within which they move. This sphere is called the kinesphere. The chapter explores gestural movement in the areas that lie around the main dimensional directions. A general gesture forward may be anywhere in the area in front of the body.
