ABSTRACT

The collapse of the Soviet Union resulted in the adoption of more Western styles of democracy. The major relocations of people which occurred under Soviet authority have only heightened existing tensions by causing resentment against the incomers. The region has suffered many wars during the course of this century, each resulting in a carving up of the spoils. Accurate information was not a strong point of the Soviet Union. A directory of funding sources for Central and Eastern Europe, the Newly Independent States and the Baltic States contains only around 75 entries many of which are American and many have interests elsewhere; however it is well laid out and thorough.
