ABSTRACT

Britain has one of the most advanced and highly developed public water supply systems in the world which serves about 99% of dwellings in England and Wales and only slightly less in Scotland. These proportions are similar to the Netherlands but much higher, for example, than the United States where 75% are served by public supplies. Britain’s public supplies are generally reliable and of a high quality and most of industry is serviced by the system although many firms also have their own private water supplies.
