ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the Republican Party under the leadership of Donald Trump. For our purposes, this serves as the representative case of a right-wing populist party that took anti-environmental positions. The chapter begins by identifying those positions. It then examines Trumps’ anchoring of those stances in his people-centrism and anti-elitism. The stances offered him another platform from which to project his populism - in ways that were consonant with his ideological ‘home,’ his supporters base, and the economic and political contexts in which he came to power.
