ABSTRACT

In November 1979, the autjor was deeply immersed in Proust’s In Search of Lost Time, which left quite an impact on his writing and psychoanalytic work. Bergson’s search was the former and Proust’s search was the latter. The production of art in healthy people can be an experimentation toward the discovery of an authentic philosophical self, but in those with a fragmented sense of self, it is an attempt at rescue and has a sense of urgency about it that sweeps everything else aside. Art productions by schizophrenic patients often dramatically express this urgency and fragmentation. It is correct that what the author have come to realize is how every psychoanalyst approaches the patient with a toolkit, whether it is displayed or not. Lévi–Strauss pointed out that the toolkit is for the use of a bricoleur, a potter.
