ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the stories children create about themselves and how they might enhance their ability to create generative, transformational stories and become more sophisticated in being an educational influence in their own learning and lives through extending their research to include themselves. As children learn the skills are important, such as literacy and numeracy, they are also learning about how to learn, about themselves as learners and how they inter-relate with others. Education is about helping children to improve the stories they tell to explain their world and the life they want to live, able to learn from the past, plan for the future and live in the present. ‘Every Child Matters’ is a core government initiative, which was heralded as a new approach to the wellbeing of children and young people from birth to age 19.
