ABSTRACT
The theories of learning, and what education should be about, come from the experiences and reflections as child, school, student, adult learner and teacher. The most important key to learning successfully is to have an inner desire to learn. As young children are learning all the time, regardless of whether it is something that adults want them to learn. Golden clubs, run by the children themselves, and activity weeks became part of school life and invigorated the atmosphere of the school. Involvement with APEX workshops and summer schools has been a source of great pleasure and personal learning ever since and helped to broaden the idea of what educating a child should be about. Adults are just beginning to consult children about the management of schools and the delivery of the curriculum, how they learn but not what they learn.
