ABSTRACT

Children have the confidence and ability to challenge their own thinking and the status quo. What teachers can do through using creative thinking and philosophy is help them to develop it and develop theirs alongside them as co-creators of knowledge. Whilst writing medium-term plans for her class Joy began looking at the content of the curriculum the children are being presented with, and also the way in which it was delivered. Age, knowledge and skills have often been quoted as barriers to children taking part in action research, but teachers must challenge these preconceptions, encouraging children to critically develop their own and others’ thinking. The interactive whiteboard is a useful tool to record questions and thoughts, refining the children’s ideas behind ‘QUIFF’. The children want a conversation, a platform to talk and share ideas, thoughts, questions, to challenge, encourage and support.
