ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on street robbery and the consequences of such behaviours. The facilitator reads through the offender’s diary entitled ‘Mugging’ and the victim’s diary, and asks the young people to focus upon a series of key questions. The offender’s diary describes how a group of young people rob an old lady, kicking away her supporting sticks which make her fall over, and grab her bag. The young people are asked to make use of the problem-solving format in order to clarify what this problem means and the implications and key issues arising from this kind of situation. The young people are asked to agree strategies and rank these in order of usefulness. They are finally asked to identify how they’ll know when the problem has been solved, that is, what will be different.
