ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on racially aggravated burglary and the consequences of such behaviours. The facilitator reads through the offender’s diary and the victim’s diary before asking the young people to focus upon a series of key questions. The offender’s diary describes how Shane and Danny steal from the local shop, which is run by a Pakistani man. Their attitude and behaviour are clearly racist and it was also clear that they are immensely proud of the views that they hold. The young people focus on developing consequential thinking, victim awareness and restorative work. They are finally required to visualise how they will know when the strategies that they’ve used and developed have worked.
