ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on sexual assault and the consequences of such extreme behaviours. The facilitator reads through an article entitled ‘Boy Arrested for Sexual Assault’ before asking the young people to focus upon a series of key questions. The newspaper article describes how a 16 year old youth is arrested after having committed a sexual assault against a female in the local secondary school. Other students in the school describe how this youth had targeted the girl since arriving at the school the previous September. The site supervisor was able to intervene before a more serious crime was committed. The young people are asked to identify the antecedents to the behaviours while also considering wider issues, such as what people actually get out of assaulting someone sexually.
