ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on arson and the consequences of such behaviours. The facilitator reads through the newspaper article entitled ‘Girl Caught in the Act of Burning Building’ before asking the young people to focus upon a series of key questions. The newspaper article describes how a young girl aged 15, who has had two previous convictions for assault and robbery, was caught on CCTV attempting to burn down the local community centre. It seems that this girl had had an ongoing difficulty with the centre’s caretaker and had been harassing him for the previous three months. The young people are asked to focus upon what can be done in order to prevent such behaviours and what should happen to people who commit arson.
