ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on assault with an offensive weapon and the consequences of engaging in this kind of activity. The facilitator reads through the offender’s diary which describes how he attacks someone with a knife because this person was approaching a girl that he particularly likes. The facilitator subsequently reads the victim’s diary which describes the feelings and consequences associated with the victim in this particular scenario. This offender’s diary describes how Gary got extremely drunk when he went out one night. He acknowledges that he has always been very quick tempered, but felt that after a few drinks on this night he became agitated and aggressive. The victim’s diary describes the experiences of the victim in this particular incident and the consequences for him. The young people are asked to identify what led to this vicious assault described in the diaries and to consider what people actually get out of behaving in this way.
