ABSTRACT

Once the picture card has been removed from the bag the facilitator or pupil shows it to the rest of the group and then gives a brief description of their picture card. The picture card should then be place on the floor in front of the pupil. For this game the cards in the bag are different types of pet animals: black and white cat, brown dog, white rabbit… The description provided can be as simple as naming the picture card withdrawn from the bag, for example, ‘Hamster.’ The complexity of the description modelled by the facilitator and encouraged from the pupil will be reflective of the language abilities and experiences of the pupils enrolled in the group. It will be important for the facilitator to remain sensitive to individual pupil’s skills and abilities.
