ABSTRACT

Before bringing the pupils into the group the facilitator can place the chairs into a circle. This position allows the facilitator to see all the pupils and creates a relaxed atmosphere that supports a positive sharing environment, whilst also allowing enough room for practical tasks later on in the session. Before the pupils come into the room the facilitator should have placed the suggested cards inside an opaque bag. The pupils remain seated in a circle and are next reintroduced to the three characters in the story, Ella, Amir and their teacher Miss Summers. As each character is named the facilitator should show the pupils the accompanying picture. Pupils are then encouraged to recall what the children did during the story. Before the pupils leave the group the facilitator should present each pupil with a ‘Star of the Day’ certificate. The certificate is provided and can be copied for as many pupils as needed.
