ABSTRACT
This chapter is a contextual review of Sino-Australian relations, which offers a historical background to this book. From the perspective of political economy and international relations, this chapter firstly discusses the Australia-China relationship in politics and trade, and the influence of the US on Australian foreign policy from 1949 to 2020. Then, this chapter narrows its scope, concentrating on the BRI, and illustrates its history and its political and economic aspects in Australia from 2013 to 2020.
