ABSTRACT

The previous chapter offered an overview of the narrative shift of the BRI in the five Australian mainstream media outlets in order to answer sub-RQ 2. It revealed a general shift in the narratives of the BRI in Australian mainstream media from generally supportive to increasingly critical between 2013 and 2020. This chapter focuses on the same sub-RQ through my analysis and semi-structured interviews. In comparison with the previous chapter’s “big-picture” portrayal of the narrative shift, I will investigate the finer details of this shift by examining the output of seven Australian opinion journalists in the same five mainstream media organisations.
