ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter orients readers to inquiry-based grammar instruction. It begins with an anecdote related to students presenting their grammar inquiries, highlighting the enthusiasm, engagement, and deep learning that accompanied the activity. The chapter then discusses what inquiry-based learning can look like and how it can how it can relate to grammar instruction. The chapter then explains that inquiry-based grammar instruction is relevant to students’ identities and cultures and that it incorporates students’ assets in ways that traditional grammar instruction does not. The chapter then explains the author’s goals for the book and tells readers what they can expect from the book, highlighting important elements of the text’s structure, features, and information.
