ABSTRACT

The Constitution of India is considered the supreme law of the land. The Juvenile Justice System is nothing but an outcome of the provision laid down under Art. 15(3) of the Constitution of India. It states that “nothing in this Article shall prevent the State from making any special provision for women and children.” The last three decades have witnessed significant changes in juvenile justice policies and laws worldwide. Before discussing the various offences committed by juveniles, we should first understand who a Juvenile is. In simple language, a Juvenile is a child who has not attained the age of maturity at which he could understand the difference between right and wrong. Legally speaking, a Juvenile is a minor who has not attained a certain age at which he can be held liable for his criminal acts like an adult person under the law of the country.
